Lets Scrap INSM12#11 Challenge and Cards

Hi there..

I recently purchased a paper pack from a local Scrapbook Shop THE SCRAPBOOK LADY that is a Monthly Challenge Kit.  You have to use everything in the pack and add nothing else (with the exception of title work) to create 3 projects.

So.. I created this Layout for the BINGO challenge at Let's Scrap and also managed to get in 2 extra cards out of the items.  Handing these all in tomorrow for the month long voting.. Hold thumbs for me.. !

Close ups of elements used in the packet.. Had vellum so created the background (cut out the middle and used that for a butterfly)

Had 3 doileys in the packet, so I Misted them and made a flower cluster.  Also stamped the swirls and embossed them.

With the remainder of the papers, I managed to create 2 cards..

INSM#10 - Make your own Embellishment

This challenge was right up my alley, as I just love creating new stuff on my layouts and we had to create our own new embellishments to add to a layout.

I recently found this amazing Butterfly on the internet off Shirley's Blog and she kindly posted me the template.

I really love how it came out.  The butterflies are perfect for any layout.
(Layout has photos of my nephew's bride arriving at the wedding)

INSM12 Challenge 17 - Sketch Challenge

A while ago I posted a template of Hexagons to use.. this was so perfect as Cherie just posted her sketch challenge at Let's Scrap and it uses hexagons.  So I very diligently printed out my template and created my layout. I hauled out a mix of papers for this page and found some that I bought over 6 years ago (I just love the range though.. the words and little critters)..

This is when we went to SKY HIGH in the DANDENONG RANGES (Forests).. they have the most amazing tree that is a tree inside a tree.. it is called the WISHING TREE and the boys just couldn't wait to climb it.

THE LEGEND; of the wishing tree began around 1900. This area was heavily wooded and a young 4 year old boy Billy Langton became lost. His father searched everywhere and finally came to this spot. He wished he could find his son and he looked through the circle in the tree and saw his young son playing beside the creek. Local legend says if you wish hard enough and look through the magic circle your wish will come true ! But don't wish for too much...

INSM Challenge #2 (take 2)... BEST FRIENDS

Eniko's challenge at Let's Scrap was to change your scrapping style to something you don't ever scrap.  I did my foil layout, but felt it very grundgy as opposed to Artistic that I was hoping for.. so I decided today to give it a second bash.

I used tons of paint and stamps and this is definately now an Artistic Layout.. LOL.
Paper used: Kaisercraft papers.

Photos of my son Klaven and his best friend Juande.. this was their reunion when we went back to South Africa to visit.. so special..

Design Team Challenge 135: Our STARS are perfectly Aligned

Mindi posted a challenge at Let's Scrap to use this sketch and scrap about 4 of something.

I immediately thought of us 4 and our different Zodiac Signs.  We are also different in that we are EARTH, WATER, AIR AND FIRE.. so a perfect mix in our household.  Thought this would work so well for the layout.

I went online and printed out our characteristics, added pockets to place them into and added extra facts to the photos.

Here is my finished layout:

Papers used are Graphic 45 and Jenni Bowlin.

Let's Scrap Sketch: 5-16-12 ANGEL

This week is a Card Sketch at Let's Scrap.. This is the fun sketch Debby designed:

when I saw it, I immediately thought of a layout.

My best friends name is Angel, so I created a layout using "A FRIEND IS AN ANGEL WITHOUT WINGS" as my title.  It was so perfect for this photo.

This photo was taken days before I left to come to Australia.

I used my Cuttlebug Diecut/Embossing plate for the wings and used Perfect Pearls to glitz them up.
Flowers also created using the Sizzix Diecut template.

TUTORIAL: USING FOIL TAPE TO CREATE A LAYOUT

A friend recently shared her FOIL TAPE layout technique with me.  This is so amazing that I really wanted to share it with all you lovely ladies.

This FOIL TAPE can be purchased at your local Hardware store.  It is very thin tape and has a sticky backing.  It is called High Temperature Aluminum Foil Tape as well.

Here is my layout that I created using this tape:  (layout created as part of the change your scrap style challenge at Let's Scrap)

All you need is:

  • 1 x black cardstock for background
  • Chipboard Diecuts of your choice (or make your own out of scraps of chipboard)
  • 1 x roll of Foil Tape
  • Black Paint and paint brush
  • Embosser (or icecream stick if you don't have)
  • Wetwipes
  • Strong Glue (MONO TOMBO) for Diecuts and Tape for photos
  • Extra stamps (Stazon Ink to stamp with) and embellishments

Here is how I created this fantastic layout:

STEP 1:
Place your Chipboard dietcuts on your layouts where-ever you would like them to go. Adhere them with a strong glue (I used MONO TOMBO).

STEP 2:
Unroll some Foil Tape and gently layer it in strips from the top of your layout working your way down until the entire layout is fully covered.  Wrap the left over pieces to the back of your layout, it is adhesive so it will just stick down.

STEP 3:
Using your fingers, flatten the Foil tape gently all over first so you can see your chipboard elements underneath.
Once these are visible, use either an embossing tool or a bone folder / ice-cream stick will work too.. and deepen the grooves of the foil around your chipboard.  NOTE: the FOIL paper is going to tear a bit. Don't worry, this is why you have black as your background.

STEP 4:
Once you have finished outlining and defining all your edges, take some black acrylic paint and squeeze a moderate amount directly onto your layout.  Using your brush, paint the entire layout with black.. into the corners and all over chipboard.

BEFORE the paint dries, take some wet wipes (a very messy part), and wipe off all the excess paint.  Try and keep paint where it defines the edges and for texture purposes.  You will know when you have wiped off enough.

STEP 5:
Use extra stamps and Stazon Ink to stamp some more images onto your layout (optional)
Another option is to use extra chipboard images and WET emboss them with silver embossing power and then adhere to the layout.. these will give a different dimension to your layout.

STEP 6:
Place your photos and elements onto the layout where you would like them to go and you are finished.

This technique is great for cards too...

Hope you have enjoyed it and if you do create a layout with this technique, please send me a link to your blog or layout.. would love to see.. you can email me on nevillevanwyk02@bigpond.com
